Dear Residents of Southwest Florida,

I want to take a minute to thank all of the residents of Florida House District 75 who have supported me through my last seven years in office.  Over the years, I have valued your input, advice, and yes, our disagreements. Each of you who have taken the time to touch base with me, either in person or by phone, letter or e-mail, have helped me better understand our community and the challenges we face. You have helped me understand what you want to be accomplished in Tallahassee and what your continued expectations of our state government are. I truly appreciate your feedback and know that without it I would not have become a successful legislator.

I feel that my time in the House has been well spent and that we as legislators have made many strides over the last several years. I have passed several bills that not only benefit the residents of Southwest Florida, but the state as a whole: The creation of the School of Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University; the Northern Everglades Bill; the preservation of 74,000 acres of pristine wildlife habitat on historic Babcock Ranch and the sales tax exemption on solar energy products, just to name a few. But I feel that we have far more work to do in order to create more jobs for Floridians, make sure healthcare is affordable, protect our environment and make sure our children receive a quality education.

For that reason, I have decided to run for the Florida State Senate seat representing the citizens of Southwest Florida. So many issues have yet to be addressed, so many problems yet to be resolved. I truly believe I can continue to be an asset to the community of Southwest Florida. I can be YOUR voice in Tallahassee.

For the last forty two years, I have lived through the ebbs and flows of life in Southwest Florida. I married my husband of 31 years here and gave birth to my three beautiful children right here, too. Two of them were threatened by SIDS and one was diagnosed with a learning disability. I understand the needs of parents who face these challenges with their children every day. I have raised and educated my children here and understand the necessity of quality public schools. I have owned a business here, and like many of you, have felt the strain and sorrow that a tough economy can bring. I have watched my home value increase to astronomical proportions only to be decimated by a failing real estate environment. I have taken care of an aging parent and understand the strain that such demands can create. I have had family members battle cancer and understand that affordable, accessible healthcare is a must to a healthy outcome. I understand our community. I understand what challenges we face in the future. I want you to have a Senator who has lived these highs and lows right beside you!

My goals as your next Florida State Senator are numerous, but I want to highlight a few:

  • Provide tax incentives for businesses to relocate to Florida so that we can employ more Floridians in high paying, long term jobs.
  • Make sure our public schools provide a thorough, quality education that rivals our worldwide competitors and give parents opportunities to place their children in the highest performing schools in their area.
  • Make sure that Florida healthcare remains accessible and affordable to all regardless of income level.
  • Provide assistance to families caring for aging parents or disabled children.
  • Protect our environment through responsible regulation and oversight.
  • Preserve state’s rights by minimizing the impact of unnecessary federal regulations and unfunded mandates.
  • Make YOUR voice heard in Tallahassee!

If you agree with these goals and want someone who understands the challenges that Southwest Florida faces, then I would appreciate your vote in 2012.

I truly am grateful for all of your feedback and would like to hear from you as my campaign progresses. Please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your thoughts, suggestions and opinions.

Trudi Williams
